A Unique Camp for all Differently Abled Children
Popstar Camp will pair music, dancing and creativity to provide campers with an adaptive, multi-sensory experience that encourages movement, self-expression and provide the opportunity to learn new skills all while building new and fun friendships. This unique camp is designed for children with special needs.
Camp days and activities will revolve around a special Popstar performance. Camp days will include,
- Dancing: Campers will learn a custom choreographed dance performance. Each step will be taught to them step by step throughout camp. This is all about campers becoming comfortable in dance movement and finding their own groove.
- Karaoke! You can’t be a Popstar without a microphone. Karaoke time will allow campers to “Let it Go” and have fun with their new friends at camp.
- Crafts: Campers will participate in Pop-star inspired crafts such as the design of their their very own Hollywood Walk of Fame star.
- Photo Shoot: Campers will have an opportunity to strike a pose and smile big in a special photo shoot. Photos will be used for a special camp take-home on their last day of camp.
- Games: Interactive games will encourage coordination, motor planning, turn taking.
DL Studio is dedicated to providing a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for all campers. Popstar Camp is open to all differently abled children and is focused on ensuring that each of their unique talents and abilities are met throughout the camp experience.

Joining the DL staff will be Jason Summers and Jessica Bittner Markus of the Westchester Sandbox Theatre. For over fifteen years, Jess and Jason have had the distinct pleasure of creating theatre for differently-abled performers. Started in 2007, their Magic to to Do Players theater group works with teenagers and adults with special needs to create productions that highlight each performer’s unique talents and abilities.
Also a special education teacher, Jessica holds credentials in New York and Connecticut. She is currently enrolled in an advanced certificate program in Early Childhood Education Leadership at Harvard University and plans on beginning her Ph.D program in Educational Leadership later this year. Jessica has been dancing since the age of 3 and has choreographed shows for the past twenty-five years.
Jason is the co-owner and Artistic Director of the Westchester Sandbox Theatre, a company dedicated to performing arts education for students of all ages. He has worked extensively as a director, choreographer, teacher, and performer regionally and throughout New York. He received his BFA in Drama at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts where he graduated with honors and was presented with two outstanding achievement awards, one from the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, and the other, the Seidman Award, for his work as a performer and a scholar. In its decade-plus long history, the Sandbox and Mr. Summers have introduced thousands of children in the Westchester area to the magic of theatre.
We are so grateful to have Jess and Jason bring their expertise and energy to DL Studio.
